Description Presentation cup with irregular outline, three miniature tree trucks rising from the base and joining body at rim to serve as handles dividing body into tree panels, cast naturalistic ornaments, including small elements in gold and copper, applied to heighten realistic effect. The gilded interior and each repoussé-chased panel illustrates a scene from a Richard Wagner opera: act 2 of "Tristan und Isolde", act 3 of "Siegfried", and Hans Sach and Eva in act 2 of "Die Meistersinger". Inscription: Engraved on base: Anton Seidl. / FROM HIS NEW YORK ADMIRERS / FEB. 25th 1887. Mark: Struck on underside of base, incuse: GORHAM MF'G, Co. / NEW YORK. / [device for 1887] / [lion passant] [anchor] [Gothic G] / STERLING.
