Description One of a pair of oval covered vegetable dishes ornamented with chased floral border on granulated ground, centering cast portrait medallion at each side, die-rolled Greek key border applied around lip, loop handles with applied grotesque mask at center of each, loose cover with die-rolled Greek key border soldered on at right angle with ornamented surface inverted, to form lip, straight sloping sides engraved with crest, raised band of die-rolled Greek key border applied to top of cover and finial cast armorial lions holding blank shields on circular disks attached to center of cover. Inscription: Engraved on body: George Peabody / to / Cyrus W. Field / in testimony and commemoration / of an act of very high / commercial integrity and honor. / New York 24 Nov. 1866. Mark: Marked on base: [lion passant] [anchor] [Gothic G] / 30 / S & M / [star].
