[The hair cutting machine.]

Creator Thomas Worth (1834-1917)
Accession number X2011.5.392
Unique identifier MNY295247
Description Mr. Crackshaw being out of employment answers the advertisement of an inventor who wants agents for a new hair cutting machine, trial of the machine on a wig. Agents can make $100 a week. Crackshaw offers to cut the hair of a celebrated poet in order to get his endorsement, but "William" don't see it. Who ever heard of a poet without hair. He succeeds in getting a job from a confiding father and his five boys. He didn't quite get the hang of the machine & the cut was a little too close. But the fond mother was very decided in the opinion of the machine. A gentleman who wanted his horse's tail cut in the English style tries it next - awful failure. Introduces it to the Prison Authorities, its wonderful success gets the contract for hair cutting for all the United States prisons. Dollars at last.
